When developing in Unreal, you often select a model/asset and go to their materials and ‘Browse to Asset in Content Folder’ to then modify.

While we have been developing www.SpiritVR.co.uk we were very confused that when pressing the Browse-To button, it was going to the root folder containing the MAP, not the location of the Material.

After alot of testing, we found out that if the material is animated in a sequence, Unreal will modify the material and reference it with an ‘_Animated_01’ extension.

Image 1 shows the material with a different name.

Remapping in image 2 works great and you can then browse to the asset.

Image 3 shows how Unreal renames the material once it has been animated in the Sequencer.

Very weird, but we hope you learn something with this.
